City Picnic Belfast
Many years ago when I first heard that city picnic was great for gluten free diners, long before I had received my own diagnosis and when I spent my time finding safe places to take my mum, I was amazed by the breadth of the City Picnic gluten free menu. They had burgers… with buns!! This was long before the gluten free bap revolution when it was basically impossible to get a proper burger that wasn’t just a bare patty on a bed of lettuce.
And they don’t just do gluten free burgers. They have all kinds of tasty dishes – the menu updates regularly based on current trends of the time so we never feel like we’re missing out. My current favourites are the chip cones with duck and honey glaze. It’s so simple but tastes incredible.
The reason they understand the importance of providing safe options is because owner, and chef, Gavyn is coeliac himself. He gets it. So yes while the restaurant itself isn’t 100% gluten free you can be assured that staff are well trained and safety is a high priority.
