Kraken Fish Bar - Portrush

Kraken has been one of my go to spots when visiting the North Coast for years. I famously offered 100% gluten free fryers and the only gluten products on site were their breads. This has recently changed unfortunately due to cost living rises and they have taken the decision to introduce gluten batters and fryers for their non coeliac customers to try and reduce costs. They claim that they will still ensure strict cross contact prevention and that quality will not drop however time will tell for this. It’s disappointing for those of us with food anxieties who have lost another “safe space”

The food quality at Kraken has always been great, expensive, but great. They say that their changes will help them to bring costs down for their customers and I’m hoping that this includes their gluten free customers too. Needless to say I will still likely head to Kraken when I’m in the area and fancy a quick chippy tea because I haven’t found any other chip shops that offer the same range and quality. I always look forward to their annual stall at the Belfast Continental Christmas Market and I’m not writing them off yet. I may sound like I’m being negative but I think that is because I’m writing this in a moment of disappointment at their change in practice. Its not their fault but that doesn’t change things for the coeliacs that rely on their services.
